There's a famous song from 1929 with the lyric:
You’re the cream in my coffee,
You’re the salt in my stew;
You will always be my necessity--
I’d be lost without you
The idea was that coffee wasn't coffee without the cream. Well, I'm
not a coffee drinker, but I do believe I would be lost without cream.
It's lusciousness when whipped, it's lightness with fruit, the truly
amazing way it turns to butter when shaken, the utterly delicious-
ness as it enhances hot chocolate. Mmmmm!
I guess cream has been given a bad rap--many banishing it as
forbidden and terribly unhealthy. Without cream, though,
we wouldn't have sour cream, butter, or that goddess of
refreshment--ice cream. Those who would deny her delights, may.
I, however, will add a tablespoon or four to my warm sweetened
almond milk and enjoy. To me it is one of life's truly sweet
pleasures.
